I think I am just now warm enough to type this! We had an amazing experience at the inauguration with Kim and Don! We left the house at 4:45 am and getting to DC went smoothly. The feel in the air was incredible, everyone was in such high spirits. When we got in we heard people saying that the entire Mall was full but we were determined to get in so we could see a screen and hear everything. We ended up trying to walk around most of the crowds and we ended up reaching our destination after 2 hours of walking! We were right next to the Washington Monument and had tears in our eyes during Obama's speech!
One of my favorite parts of the day was starting up spontaneous conversations with everyone and sharing in everyone's excitement. We met some great people and it was so neat to share stories of where we were from and share in the pure excitement of the moment. I was shocked by how kind and helpful all the police and volunteers were, everyone just wanted the day to go smoothly!

Our view of the screen
This was the crowd we were stuck in for over an hour afterwards...but we made it to our train on time....although it was full and we had to take a different train. The crowd in front of Union Station was insane and we were afraid we would never make it inside! Even though everyone was worried about getting home the crowd remained calm and people were cracking jokes and letting people by as they called out the various ticket holders.

Obviously we left the kids at home and Milo did a great job for his first time with a babysitter for the whole day! I cannot imagine how terrible the day would have been with the kids...too cold, too long and too crowded!

We had a great visit and it was a memorable trip...one we will always look back on and say..."I was there!"
